I tried posting this on the AVA subreddit but the mods instantly removed it, perhaps here I can garner some actual discussion.
I believe that Avalanch is dishonest.
It runs a CENTRALIZED block proposer mechanism. It brags about a new consensus, but when MEV became apparent they quietly overhauled the whole consensus to select PSEUDO-random block proposers.
And THEY select who can propose and harvest the MEV. Because they set the parameter maxWindows, which sets the amount of pseudo-randomly chosen proposers. Predictably, if someone starts to game the pseudo-random process, they will tune the parameters to prevent it.
https://github.com/ava-labs/avalanchego/blob/v1.6.0-fuji/vms/proposervm/README.md
But not a word of this in their main documentation on consensus! Yet that's how it actually works!
Can someone who understands what I'm talking about here, and who still defends Avalanch, share their viewpoint? Because, from my POV, there are no long term prospects for a project that runs pseudo random block proposer selection for its nodes. That will end either in corruption if Ava Labs exploits it themselves, or in attacks where people game the proposer selection.
