A question that has bothered me since I got back from the bitcoin conference,”who are the bitcoin core developers?”

As I finished watching Michael Saylor give a speech at the Bitcoin Conference I started to think who else would be an important speaker on the topic of bitcoin, then all of a sudden I thought of the bitcoin core developers and then I had so many questions like: who are they, how are they chosen, who voted them in? How have they been vetted? Why isn’t the team famous? Or at least the head core Developer not famous? Why are none of them at the Bitcoin Conference? How do we know one if not all of them haven’t been compromised? And how much damage can they really do? I am very interested to hear other peoples thoughts on the topic. Thank you.
