I think decent alternative L1s could survive if they become like side-chains to Ethereum. In other words, they should build seamless, polished bridges with Ethereum (or be connected via L2s). That would be sort-of sharing but on higher level.
I can speculate that in the future Dapp end-user might not even know which underlying chain they use.
Ethereum already gathered massive network effect, so the only way to survive is to be part of it. That's reality which L1 devs are too proud to admit.
In short, the only way to survive is to stop being "Ethereum killer". If you can't beat, then join.
