I know debanking ourselves is part of the crypto mantra but what about extreme cases like death or major events like fire/flood/tornado/hurricane?
What we really need is a bank. I know what you're thinking... but think about it: you die and your family has no way to access your funds. That's a terrible outcome. The bank could be there for nothing more than to house your ledger(s) and instructions on how to access the funds. Keep it in a safe deposit box. Then your family can come take ownership of what's rightfully theirs.
This would be much safer alternative to a whole raft of other possibilities. It doesn't have to be a special bank, either. Any bank of today could up and do it any time they wanted. Funds would still be available whenever a person needed to access them and some major holes in protecting funds during unforseen events would be filled.
