Blockstream Jade questions/ concerns

So I bought a Jade a few weeks ago, and am still trying to get it to work. It came installed with firmware 0.1.34, and I'm wondering if my problems would be solved with updated firmware. This is all being done on an android phone BTW.

My first concern is the very first thing I have to do is create a new wallet, or retrieve an existing wallet, then I have to connect it to Green with usb or bluetooth to set it up. I thought the whole point of the jade was to keep it airgapped?? I'm not able to enter device settings at any point during this initial set up. It seems as if even I didn't want to use the jade with green, I would have to set it up with green first. If the latest update fixes this I guess I'll have to create a new wallet, download the new updates to the device, then create a new wallet totally airgapped

Secondly, I am able to connect to the device with Bluetooth quite easily, but it seems from the website I'm not able to install new firmware over bluetooth. When trying to connect to the jade with usb it just searches and searches but never finds the device. I know the usb is connected ok, because my phone starts charging the jade.

It also seems the jade gets stuck on 'connect to green via Bluetooth or usb' and it doesn't give me any options to toggle through. The whole process has basically infuriated me with this thing, and has me cussing it out. My Ledger was sooo much easier to set up.

So people using jade with the latest updates, can you set up a new wallet using only qr codes, or do you HAVE to connect it with usb or bluetooth?
