Can closing your eyes and investing in top 5 cryptos by market cap work?

If you exclude stable coins and just invest in top five cryptocurrencies by market cap then it can be the easiest way to invest in crypto. But can this work?
The gains and volatility has been better with this approach when compared to altcoins of small market cap. Challenge here is you will have to keep rotating money as the crypto ranks change. I tried top 10 too and the gains are almost similar to top 5 but with little more gain.
I allocated equally to all coins rather than based on market cap share or other fancy allocation formulas.
