Can we talk about the mods deleting posts?

It seems like lately a lot of people have been having problems with their posts being removed. Now, some of these instances are obviously the right course of action. When someone creates a ridiculous post or one that violates the rules of this sub, it goes without saying that removal is the correct course of action. There are other instances, however, where the motive behind the mods deleting posts are far from clear.

For instance, I had a post yesterday that was left up for over 8 hours, received close to 300 upvotes and did not violate any of the rules of the sub but was removed. Using ModMail to try to clarify why this happened did not get any responses. I have seen this happen to several other benevolent posts also. If these are going to be removed, I fully understand and accept that policing this sub is at the discretion of the mods. I think we all have the right to expect two things though, especially because a current governance poll is seeking to decide whether deleted posts should be eligible for moons.

If our posts are removed, we should receive reasoning about why this happened beyond the generic system message. As well as this, any removal should happen reasonably quickly. I don't expect it to be instant, but when I have an 8-hour-old post and have spent a reasonable amount of that time subsequently interacting with the community in the comments, this does not seem fair.
