I have a friend in Turkey who was using the Bread wallet to hold some Bitcoin. Now they tell me that Coinbase bought Bread and is forcing people to migrate to Coinbase wallet.
Literally W...T...F???
Is this going to become a trend? Is Coinbase going to buy up all of the wallet apps and force everyone to go through their KYC?
I don't even know if it's possible for someone in Turkey to open a Coinbase account. And now my friend is not able to have access to their Bitcoin unless they sign up for Coinbase?
This is extremely concerning because it implies that no non-custodial wallet is safe from being assimilated into the giant beast of Coinbase. This has big ramifications for speech and censorship and free access to one's money.
Is there a wallet available on Android phones that is NEVER going to be acquired by Coinbase? Anybody else concerned about this?
