Crypto mixers - current state

What is the current status on using crypto mixers in the US, UK and EU? Would using those get me to jail, like the poor fella who created TornadoCash? Are the exchanges not accepting crypto that went through these? If not yet - what is the likelihood of that happening in the future? Is there an automated service that can check how much of crypto that I currently own already went through mixers?
