Crypto Stocks Face a Big Test as Earnings Begin

Crypto stocks are heading into an important week as three major companies prepare to report their third-quarter financial results.

Block, Circle, and Riot Platforms will release their earnings on November 3 and 4, giving investors a closer look at how cryptocurrency businesses performed between July and September.

Although all three companies operate in the digital asset industry, their business models are very different.

Block focuses on financial services and Bitcoin payments, Circle generates income from its USDC stablecoin business, and Riot depends heavily on Bitcoin mining and infrastructure.

We’ll be watching whether these companies can turn cryptocurrency activity into stronger financial performance.

TL;DR

  • Block reports on November 3, with analysts expecting approximately $6.63 billion in revenue and earnings of $1.02 per share.
  • Circle releases results on November 4, with investors focusing on USDC growth and the impact of lower interest rates.
  • Riot Platforms also reports on November 4, with analysts anticipating another quarterly loss as Bitcoin mining faces profitability pressures.

Block Earnings Will Test Bitcoin Payment Growth

Block will be the first company to report, releasing its results after the US stock market closes on Tuesday, November 3.

The company operates Cash App, Square, and several Bitcoin-related products.

Analysts expect quarterly revenue of approximately $6.63 billion and earnings of $1.02 per share.

However, we believe Bitcoin-related profitability will deserve particular attention.

During the second quarter, Block reported $72 million in Bitcoin ecosystem gross profit, representing a 31% decline from the previous year.

The company attributed that weakness partly to lower transaction fees and changing Bitcoin trading activity.

For the third quarter, analysts expect Bitcoin revenue of approximately $1.73 billion, down 12.2% year over year.

It’s important to distinguish Bitcoin revenue from profit, because the company also records the cost of acquiring Bitcoin sold to customers.

We’ll also be monitoring Block’s Bitcoin holdings, which can influence reported earnings through changes in market value.

Circle Faces Pressure From Lower Interest Rates

Circle will report its third-quarter earnings before markets open on Wednesday, November 4.

The company issues USDC, one of the largest US dollar-backed stablecoins.

Unlike Bitcoin miners, Circle’s business depends heavily on the income generated by assets supporting its stablecoin reserves.

That makes interest rates particularly important.

Analysts anticipate revenue of approximately $797 million and earnings of $0.40 per share.

In the previous quarter, Circle reported reserve income of $668 million, an increase of 5% year over year.

However, its reserve return rate declined to approximately 3.5%, limiting the financial benefit of growing USDC circulation.

This creates an interesting challenge.

Even if more businesses and investors adopt USDC, lower interest rates could reduce the income Circle earns on its reserves.

As we’ve previously covered in Circle’s expanding USDC ecosystem, the company’s broader strategy increasingly involves payment infrastructure and blockchain adoption.

For us, the key question is whether stablecoin growth can offset pressure on reserve yields.

Riot Platforms Faces Another Mining Profitability Test

Riot Platforms will also hold its earnings conference call on November 4.

The Bitcoin mining company faces a different challenge: maintaining profitability while managing electricity costs, mining difficulty, and infrastructure spending.

Analysts expect approximately $161.46 million in quarterly revenue, including around $112.85 million from Bitcoin mining.

They also forecast a loss of $0.24 per share.

That would represent another difficult quarter for a company operating in an increasingly competitive industry.

Riot previously reported second-quarter revenue of $174.24 million.

We will be looking closely at mining margins, production costs, and management’s plans for expanding its data center operations.

These figures could reveal whether Riot is becoming less dependent on Bitcoin mining alone.

The results may also offer insights into the broader Bitcoin mining industry.

Why These Crypto Earnings Matter

The upcoming reports arrive as investors reassess cryptocurrency-related businesses following another period of market volatility.

Bitcoin price movements can affect all three companies, but the financial impact varies considerably.

Block benefits from payment activity and Bitcoin transactions.

Circle depends on stablecoin circulation and interest income.

Riot’s performance reflects mining economics and infrastructure costs.

That diversity makes this earnings period particularly useful for understanding the wider market.

According to Circle’s official investor announcement, its earnings webcast will begin at 8 a.m. Eastern Time on November 4.

We’ll be following the financial results, management commentary, and forward-looking guidance to see which business models are showing resilience.

For readers tracking the broader cryptocurrency market, these reports could provide a clearer picture of how publicly traded crypto companies are adapting to changing conditions.

The results have not yet been released, and analyst forecasts remain estimates.

Ultimately, the numbers will show whether the industry’s recent growth is translating into sustainable business performance.
