 | Cypherpunk is any group or individual that advocates the use of cryptography as a way of acquiring privacy leading to social and political change. They have been engaged since the late 80s, and originally they communicated through the Cypherpunk mailing list, which Satoshi Nakamoto was part of. It really gained some traction when Eric Hughes published A Cypherpunk's Manifesto(https://nakamotoinstitute.org/static/docs/cypherpunk-manifesto.txt). Let's take a look at it. I think we can already notice how important privacy is for Cypherpunks, right ? And what does the Cypherpunks used to think about cryptography regulations ? Not for a suprise, they weren't fans of it. And what did Satoshi Nakamoto himself think of the matters of privacy, cryptography and regulation ? Was he a Cypherpunk ? But that's not like Satoshi Nakomoto ever mentioned privacy in his whitepaper, right ? Bitcoin was never meant to be a private coin. It was just meant to be a store of value. Hmmmm, no. Now, at 2022, for some reason, all this cypherpunk ethos of privacy-preserving transactions is just..... lost. Crypto community in general has no desire for privacy at all. Not only that, but we can clearly see that the Cypherpunk ethos is completely dead between people that own crypto. I mean, most of people in this sub are are not only quite happy with KYC regulations, but also wants more regulations on crypto and think it is just a good thing to government regulates it. Not convinced ? I'll give you a few examples of this sub. You can see this kind of thought everywhere around here. Now, want to see even more weird stuff ? There's actually people around here that not only supports CBDCs, but are basically praying that the governments picks their favorite blockchain to run CBDCs, like there was any chance of that happening, anyways.
