Do you care about the recent Metamask-Infura privacy changes which capture your IP address and link them to your wallet? Probably not, but if you do...I have some recommendations.

First things first: the easiest thing you can do is invest in a reliable VPN service to route your IP and disguise yourself when you perform transactions on the blockchain. Here are some of the top (paid) VPN's which have been mentioned in the last few days:

- Nord VPN

- Proton VPN

- Express VPN

+1 to Proton VPN for offering a free version.

Secondly, you can change wallets...sure, but if the wallet is using Infura as an RPC then you aren't really changing anything, and many are using Infura. The RPC is essentially your gateway to the blockchain. If Infura RPC went down tomorrow, the majority of metamask users wouldn't be able to transact on the blockchain!!

Okay, so a VPN is the 80% solution to privacy in todays day in age. A wallet change might help. But the best thing you can do is run your own RPC or better yet, your own node.

  1. Run your own RPC through alchemy and add it to metamask. Here is probably the one of the better tutorials I was able to find. You can add custom RPC's for ETH, Polygon, Arbitrum and more. https://docs.alchemy.com/docs/how-to-add-alchemy-rpc-endpoints-to-metamask. Having your own RPC can dramatically speed up transaction time, especially in times of heavy usage (eg. an nft launch).
  2. Honestly, the 100% solution is run your own node. This requires some technical know-how and possibly some upfront expense in hardware. This allows you to publish your transactions to the blockchain directly, no third parties! For ETH --> Follow a guide to install/sync Geth and Prysm (or other client) on your local machine, then connect metamask to your local node. Here is a solid guide: https://www.coincashew.com/coins/overview-eth/guide-or-how-to-setup-a-validator-on-eth2-mainnet

Listen, most of you probably won't care. But privacy is and should be at the forefront of everyone's mind. If you continue to use metamask, at least use a vpn when you connect.

Edit: good resource for RPC Urls for most networks https://rpc.info/ Edit 2: no, you do not need 32 ETH to run your own node, running a node is free (aside from the hardware cost and electricity of course)
