Does using a passphrase protect you from a hardware wallet manufacture stealing your seed?

People were recently concerned that ledger could write firmware that would cause the private key to be extracted. Of course, this seems possible with all hardware wallets.

Do you think using a passphrase cold prevent this potential "attack"? Not just for ledger - for example, bitbox, coldcard, etc. Can the cold wallet secretly store the passphrase too and extract?

What do you think?
