Doing your own research is why the college educated, very well adjusted lady down the road from me truly believes that the covid vax will give her kids autism. You might think you yourself "Well she's just a dumbass" and you may be right, but let me ask you a serious question. How are you any better situated than her in the complex world of finance? Are you the milf down the road, but with your wealth?
Doing your own research is important, but knowing your limitations is vastly more important. Are you a finance professional or have some rigorous educational background that allows you to truly understand what you are reading, and more importantly allows you to be critical of it? If not, ask a pro. It's just that simple. Real research is rarely done in a silo or alone. People have been convinced that simply reading articles and pondering crypto somehow qualifies you to dump your life saving into the asset safely. That's wrong and is hurting a lot of you.
Having a solid background, an education in the subject allows professionals to form a basis from which to measure the articles and information they receive and fit it into actionable context. Without that, you may well be misleading yourself and coming to wildly inaccurate conclusions given the exact same information exposure as a professional.
There is nothing wrong with being casually interested in crypto, but know where you stand. Don't fool yourself. You don't have to agree with what I have said, you don't have to beleive in gravity either. I am recommending before you jump though, to talk to an expert.
