I was thinking about El Salvador and about how quickly my impression of this country has changed over the course of the last year. I remember my previous impression of the country (on the rare occasions I ever would have even thought about it) - was just poverty, crime, cartels and drugs, etc.
Suddenly with the announcement last year - in my mind, it's the most enlightened country on the planet. Nayib Bukele become both a true here as well as someone I really relate to on a 'personal'/philosophical level. The difference over the course of a year is almost a kind of cognitive dissonance when I deeply reflect (very 2022).
Following on from these musings, it occurred to me - just how secure the country of El Salvador is now - surprisingly enough, from a military perspective. We all know how much goodwill has been built up towards them from our Bitcoin community - deep and enduring goodwill - perhaps even a mixture of loyalty and I'm sure protectiveness.
Imagine if El Salvador was ever threatened in any way - just how much hard currency it would suddenly have on hand to defend itself and it's interests - which are now so aligned with the interests of Bitcoin. The wisdom of the decision made by Nayib Bukele is quite profound when considered from this perspective.
Perhaps this line of thinking somehow ties in with the recent debate about 'violence' within the context of Bitcoin. I see tiny El Salvador as suddenly one of the most powerful countries on Earth in a threat situation. Almost fitting given the connection with Bitcoin - that it is purely a defensive power.
It would be almost poetic if the next country to adopt a Bitcoin standard was geographically connected to El Salvador... what an extraordinary bloc of enlightenment and power.
