ETF vs holding actual crypto

Please help me understand the monetary benefit of holding BTC vs investing in the ETF.

My take is that other than the slightly higher fees, there is not much monetary benefit between holding an crypto over the ETF. An ETF tracks the price and you benefit in the same way from the ups and downs.

The only benefit I see in actually holding BTC in a cold wallet is that you own the crypto under your control. That's it. Big deal...most of these exchanges are now as safe as any cold wallet. My concern is tracking the price and benefitting from the ups and downs and not so much holding it and dealing with transfer fees etc.

Please enlighten me if I'm wrong somehow.
