On this day 11 years ago the first Litecoin block was mined. It was developed by Charlie Lee using Bitcoin source code but changing some parameters like block time from 10 minutes to 2.5 minutes (/4), total coins from 21 million to 84 million coins (x4). The final change was using the Scrypt algorithm vs SHA-256 that Bitcoin uses, this prevents a 51% attack from Bitcoin miners if it used the same algorithm. Currently Dogecoin and Litecoin are merge mined. They share the same hashing power making a 51% attack more difficult than if they had miners for each. Currently both LTC and doge help to assure each others survival. Litecoin has existed through bull and bear markets and has 11 years with 100% uptime, typically trades its circulating supply daily on the blockchain. Recently, optional privacy was added in the form of MWEB. If you didn’t know about LTC this is the condensed version and really I’m just here to wish Litecoin holders a Happy Birthday Litecoin!
