Having trouble swapping AVAX on Coinbase

I’ve made some tidy profits with avax on Coinbase and was looking to swap out my initial investment for paxg. I moved onto Coinbase wallet as paxg is not supported on the Coinbase app. As no straight swap was possible i swapped out to usdc, but there was an avax logo on the usdc icon that suggested I was still within the avax network - and so i couldn’t simply swap my newly acquired usdc to paxg as it’s not supported. A simple google search made it clear I needed ETH to swap for paxg but the gas fees to swap to eth are 50%. Like..what?

I don’t remember converting being as much of a scam on Binance but then I haven’t taken profits in a while (as you can all imagine).

Any suggestions as I’m thinking of just cashing out of avax altogether due to these limitations OR moving everything to Binance in the hope that swaps are made easier.
