Here's why it's always good to hold at least a little bit of crypto, for its utility and unique characteristics, beyond just trying to get rich.

Here's why I will always hold at least a little bit of crypto, even if it stops making me money.

1- It's another type of money that removes my dependence on a company/bank/goverment/etc...and gives me the benefits of decentralization.

While I still trust many Western democracies, it's nice not to have all my eggs in one basket that relies entirely on a government being permanently trustworthy. Or having to rely on the policies of banks and financial institutions. I like to have the option to diversify my trust a little.

While miners or nodes can make changes, major changes would require a fork and likely a hard fork. I can still follow the fork I want.

Decentralization may not work for everything or everyone. But it's nice to have that option for some of my money.

2- It's money I can access anywhere in the world, any time I want. And can travel anywhere in the world with.

All I need is an internet connection, and my key or my passphrase.

Since all your coins are actually on the blockchain, you can cross any border with your wealth.

You can get past security with millions. Airport security can do a full cavity search, there's nothing you need to hold. You just need 12 or 24 words when you're on the other side. Which you don't need to physically hold.

3- It's money I know will be there as long as I have the key, and won't be blocked by a bank, or be at the mercy of changed bank policies.

Granted it may not be worth the same value, the amount of coins are still on the blockchain, and it's very hard for a single person or single company to change that.

I'm not gonna get a letter from the bank telling me my bitcoins have been blocked, my account is frozen, my funds got seized. Or that they changed my policy, closed my account, etc... Or tell me that I'm no longer the owner of that account, because they made a mistake, or someone stole my identity.

4- It's money I can give any level of security I want, for any level of paranoia.

You can have security for any level of paranoia. At the end of the day, because of the encryption of the blockchain, brute forcing a key would take an eternity. Even with the level of quantum computing we can expect in the near future, it would still take too long.

That means you can give your private key any level of security level you want.

5- It's censorship resistant.

Because of blockcain, it's extremely hard for a government or entity to get in the way of my transaction. I would have to literally hand over my keys and custody for them to get between my coins.

6- It's discrimination resistant.

In the same way it's censorship resistant, it's also very hard to discriminate against your money based on your status, race, religion, country, etc...

7- It can be a useful alternative for intentional transfers.

Depending on the coin and network, you can instantly send money across the world for cheap or near $0. Also, because the fees are based on a single transaction, it can be the same $0.0001 fee whether you send $100 or $100,000,000.

It also works 24/7, and you don't need to have any matching bank, a matching Western Union. You only need an internet connection, and download a matching free wallet.

8- I don't have my name or address tied to my coins or my wallet (if I don't want to).

Despite the transparency of many chains, your coins aren't directly tied to an identity. You would need to make the same transfers to something like an exchange with your identity. And even that info isn't gonna be on the blockchain. It's information that would typically need to be subpoenaed.

Getting your identity with crypto is much harder. And with privacy coins, can be near impossible.

9-It's an alternative form of money.

It's something good to have simply as an alternative.

It has a lot of similar qualities to holding metals, but in a digital form, and has a lot of qualities and features you just don't have with any other forms of money.
