It's still too early for that. This article barely scratches the surface. What if investors could put money into an independent film and then collect a small profit every time the movie is streamed? Not only would this get more independent films created versus the lame fifth sequel of a blockbuster, you could get your name on the credits. If your name was listed as a contributor to Pulp Fiction, wouldn't that be worth it, even if it wasn't a financial success for you? Having your name up there makes it a collectable and you could turn a profit on top of that. Sounds amazing to me. When a musician's contract with a major company is up, they could go to the blockchain. Everybody wins. Instead of Spotify/Warner/whoever taking 80% of the profits, artists and investors could split it evenly. Support your local bands. How cool would you look with your name on the hottest bands albums before anyone else has heard of them? If every stream is a tiny profit, pick right and maybe your grandkids have their college figured out. It might not be Gangnam Style viral, but it might be a classic rock song that pays off for decades.
If you have ever used a BitTorrent, you can see how easily the people can run networks without Amazon and Microsoft cloud services. With blockchain, we can do it legally and share the profits by providing bandwidth or investing. It can all be done without Facebook, Google, or Apple tracking your every preference. Someday, things will be promoted because they are good, not just because they have a billion dollar marketing team behind them.
