How do you compare cryptocurrencies' marketcap?

All Cryptocurrencies

by COINS NEWS 168 Views

I was browsing through CoinGecko today and came across this page where they break down and compare the 3 categories of marketcap.

  1. Large-cap cryptocurrencies (>$10 billion)

  2. Mid-cap Cryptocurrencies ($1 billion - $10 billion)

  3. Small-cap cryptocurrencies (<$1 billion).

Are the above figures the universal metric, a rough global standard or anyone can decide for themselves what they consider to be a small, mid, or large-cap coin?

Based on the above comparison of market cap, the top 10 cryptocurrencies by marketcap are large-cap coins. And only 39 coins in the top 50 cryptocurrencies by market cap are mid-cap coins. The rest of the over 20, 000 known cryptocurrencies out there are small-cap coins.

Do you use market capitalisation as a metric for evaluating coins to invest in, and how do you compare them?
