How do you DYOR?

This used to be a highly popular word during the last bull market. You would have seen it every 4 comments everywhere, just like DCA and FUD. I feel like I'm not seeing this word too often now, but I am wondering though: how do you do some research into a project?

I am asking this because I feel my skill in doing this thing can be improved, and most probably some people's skill too. From where do you take the information when doing "DYOR". How do you filter the trustworthy info from hopium? What are some general guidelines?
