how do you engage with crypto as a currency?

hi I'm trying to educate myself more with how people engage with crypto as a currency. I live in the US and every once in a while I'll see a crypto based ATM or a food truck that accepts BTC. otherwise I have no idea where people are spending crypto

is it mostly spent online? do I need to engage with swaps/dapps/whatever else to get a better perspective for how people are using crypto? tbh I understand very little about how people actually use crypto, I just know that you guys believe in it

how can I get more into crypto other than just buying and holding BTC which has been my only experience with it in the past several years
