How many Moons did frequent Daily users earn in Round 15? [Charts]

Reposting, since yesterday's post was automatically removed due to there already being 2 Moons posts in cc's hot top-50.

In this post I introduce a new metric: Daily frequency.

It measures the number of Moon Round 15 Dailies a user has visited and started at least one top-level thread. E.g., my Daily frequency is 24 (I haven't started a top-level thread in 4 Dailies out of 28 possible Dailies).

Charts and descriptions

First, let's test if user's frequency to Dailies has an effect to the amount of earned Moons.

[c01] This histogram displays, how many Moons an average user has earned vs. their day-to-day frequency to Daily posts. Clearly, we see that the most frequent Daily users earn more Moons on average.

Above chart does not yet show the full picture. Next, let's count the number of users grouped by their frequency to Dailies.

[c02] This histogram displays, how many users belong to each Daily frequency group. Clearly, we can observe that most of the users started top-level threads only within a single Daily post and never really returned back.

Finally, let's multiply Daily user count by mean earned Moons.

[c03] This histogram is the most surprising and cool-looking to me. It displays total Moons earned per Daily frequency group. We can now see that even though occasional users earn fewer Moons on average, the large number of occasional users compensates for it. Nevertheless, it's very interesting to see, how the frequent users, and there aren't so many of them (see [c02] above), can achieve similar results.

Bonus chart

Let's try to estimate the comment quantity > comment quality.

[c04] This bonus histogram displays, how many total top-level Daily threads users posted vs. their frequency to Dailies. This is exceptionally interesting. If we combine data from [c02] and [c04], we can see that a small number of frequent users is making a considerable effort in posting a significant number of top-level threads in Dailies.

Discussion

  • If you aim to earn more Moons, the frequency to Daily clearly matters. I guess, Daily users memorize you, get used to you, interact more with you.
  • Quantity over quality. I think - quality totally wins. Check the bonus chart [c04] and chart [c01]. Focus on Daily frequency group 27 and 28. Clearly, group 27 users post fewer top-level Daily threads, but can still achieve very high mean earned Moons per user. This same data also leads me to believe that group 28 users tend to post lots of little-value comments that on average do not gain much karma.
