I'm worried crypto is being oversold as the future of everything to the general public

All Cryptocurrencies

Over the last few months I've noticed more and more posts about how crypto and blockchain technology are the next revolution in human history. It's right up there with the introduction of electricity and the internet itself. Web 3.0 is going to "change everything."

This isn't just from videos in our YouTube circles or from Michael Saylor, it's in testimony to Congress and on prime time television. It's one thing to be a crypto evangelist and try to grow adoption but there is a real danger in that any failure of crypto to be "the future of everything" is going to result in a huge backlash that will hurt the perception of crypto as a whole. We're already seeing it in the full rejection of NFT's with Ubisoft.

When did being the future of money not become enough? I understand there are uses for blockchain technology beyond currency but people are just trying to tie it into everything even when it doesn't make any sense at all. All of this is generating a huge "fear of missing out" and as someone who lived through the dot-com bubble this feels remarkably similar. Immutability, permanency, and decentralization are all amazing when applied to the right problem. When they are shoe horned into every problem it just creates bad solutions.
