Investigation: Cardano Has Been Moving Goalposts On Smart Contracts Since 2018. Will They Finally Keep Their Promise This Time?

Before the cult comes for me and my family, I want to preface this by saying I hold some ADA and I want it to succeed. It’s in my financial best interest. But that doesn’t mean being delusional and ignoring facts

Cardano has promised smart contracts many times in the past and made all the big announcements like it is doing now, only to delay it and never fulfill on the promise. What concerns me is all of these are from over 2 years ago (2018) and somehow none of the projects are complete yet and the same announcements seem to be made over and over again.

Here is the evidence I’ve found:

• Here is an article about Cardano releasing a smart contracts test net in 2018 similar to what we have now in 2021.

• Another one from 2018: Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson Explains Why ADA’s New Smart Contract Tools are a Boon for Fintech

• I found some announcements of the release of KEVM and a smart contract platforms from 2018 three years ago. Never got a follow up on this particular announcement.

• This is a link of a Reddit announcement by someone at IOHK from 2018 about the KEVM, and here is another Reddit announcement to corroborate it.

• After 3 years of silence, KEVM started making the rounds again in the end of 2020 with all the usual big announcement. Once a test net was released, complaints started to rise that even a simple "Hello World" program was not working. Here are some more posts on the same issue. And another one. Regarding this problem with the faulty documentation a Github ticket was opened which has still not been resolved to this day. This was almost 6 months ago.

• In response to the above problem, instead of fixing it, they just removed the respective documentation. Big red flags

• I also found this 2018 article by IOHK about a smart contract testnet. (sound familiar?)

• More smart contract announcements from 2018: Charles Hoskinson Brings Smart Contract Innovation to Cardano

I can keep going... there are literally hundreds of articles about "big announcements" from Charles and Cardano that they are almost getting smart contracts, very similar to what is happening now. What do you guys think? Will it finally happen? I sure hope so.
