Is it safe to complete KYC on Binance (China) as an American citizen?

I would like to withdraw my funds (perhaps 20 different coins) from the exchange. I know one needs to complete KYC verification to trade, is this also the case for withdraws? I believe it is. I am familiar with the popular behavior of long time users of the platform using a VPN to safely access the site. Would revealing I am an American citizen not also get my account removed? How would an American citizen who set up an account back in 2018 go about removing their assets at this point? Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
