Miners don't need to keep the transaction history of the blockchain only the current Unspent transaction database (3gb) and the header history. After syncing with the network they can delete the 180gb file of the transaction history.
They do this because apperantly hosting the database and sending it to new nodes takes up terabytes of bandwidth a month. Also it take sup a lot of space.
What percentage of miners prune? What percentage of miners are good Samaritans and distribute this giant database to new miners when they join?
