Is running a node hard on my laptop?

It will require me to leave my laptop running over night and other times I am not using it so will this additional use make it wear out? I am currently syncing to an external ssd using my main laptop. But I could switch to an older desktop computer that I have running Linux mint if I want. My laptop is a pretty beefy gaming laptop so it's nothing it can't handle. The downfall of using the desktop would be portability because I would not be able to bring it with me for half of the year and only access it on occasional weekends.
