I was reading this post the other day https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/sgkbqa/picking_the_right_l2_rollup_loopring_vs/
Specifically the OP's insight of "Presumably, Loopring, zkSync, Optimistic, and Arbitrum are not all going to be equally popular in the long run. Eventually, one of them will win out as the place where every dApp that doesn't need Eth mainnet's security model will live. So there will probably only be one winner 10 years out from now."
I liken this to how geth has become the go-to eth1 client, and prysm has most of the beacon use.
And I am wondering if there'll be a push for layer 2 scaling client diversity, like there is with consensus clients, or are we gonna stick with one scaling solution?
To be honest, I'm making this post sarcastically in relation to the merge consensus client diversity push, which I disagree with. But there is a very real problem here of natural selection vs a community swaying things so everyone can win and be equal.
But if diversity and decentralization are values of the ethereum community, it would be in line with values to push for all the different layer 2s to succeed, no?
Historically this has been the case, with ethereum pushing to have many different clients.
My concern with doing this is how it would become a nightmare for devs to build on, like the OP in that link explains. And a nightmare for the community to control the distribution of layer 2 resources and end usage.
So, I guess my question is... Is the community gonna push for layer 2 client diversity, or let nature take it's course and let one win?
