Hi all. I bought Ethereum and Bitcoin a few years ago and just had it sitting there all this time. I decided to withdraw it the other day, so I fired up the Ledger Nano S but it's out of date and won't do the transactions.
No worries. I know the seed phrase so I got a new wallet and was able to access my Bitcoin. However, the Ethereum comes up as $0. I thought both Ethereum and Bitcoin would be linked to the seed. phrase, but it seems only Bitcoin was.
They were kept in the same wallet (or so I thought). So... I can see the Ethereum balance on my Ledger Live wallet, but can't send it anywhere, and can't load it onto a new wallet.
I may be able to update the Ledger device, but I'm afraid that if I do, I'll lose access to the Ethereum... any tips?
UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments and for explaining about the derivation paths. I have my seed phrase so was comfortable enough to update the firmware on my Ledger device and all seems fine. It didn't even require me to re-enter the seed phrase. So the Ethereum is still there and ready to be transferred, but not to any of the scammers in my DMs.
