Legacy, SegWit, Native SegWit or TapRoot which one to choose?

Hello,

When you store your bitcoin on a hardware wallet like ledger. What is the best type of wallet to choose?

Im a bit confused since SegWit is backwards compatible, but you can send bitcoins between al types of addresses, right?

I know that SegWit enables lower transaction fees and even lower with Native SegWit.
but if Native SegWit can send to all other addresses what is the point of using SegWit, is native SegWit not also backwards compatible since you can send to Legacy?

Thanks in advance,
