Paul Rosaline an Amazon Conservationist was recently on Lex Fridman’a podcast. Around 45 minutes into the podcast Paul starts to discuss more about the benefits of studying Anacondas and how being the apex predator they ingest what everything around them ingests. He goes on to explain how something they look for in the tissue of these snakes is mercury. Where does this Mercury come from? Gold mines. I did not know this but gold mines are a HUGE polluter of the rainforest and to the people who inhabit it. Paul talks about not only the pollution but also the devastating birth defects and unpunished crime that comes about from these operations. I find it ironic and frustrating how harmful gold is in this world but they label Bitcoin as a enormous global polluter and crime enabler. It’s sad to see, Bitcoin is not perfect. It seems that it may not be all that much worse than gold in the space of pollution and corruption. Sorry if this post does not flow well. I’m not the best writer, but I am frustrated and needed to vent.
