I am working with some people to create a site tracking client diversity of the Beacon Chain and we are looking for community input! Part of project would be creating statistics to track in an effort to find more nuanced situations of centralization beyond the basic "Client A makes up ___% of the network". For example, finding hosted nodes are >X% of the entire population or >X% of validators are located in 1 geographical location or country.
The question to all would be what type of information would you want to see regarding client diversity? And from those ideas, what levels of decentralization would you feel are a goal to strive for? Really feel free to dig into specific numbers here - we want to make these things easily trackable with quantifiable goals in mind!
As a starting off point to maybe spark some discussion, one of the big ones we want to flesh out is creating metrics on how much staked ETH is controlled by staking pools / entities. At what point does it become dangerous? How do we weigh staked ETH within a centralized entity versus decentralized solutions? Of course, don't limit it to just that - any diversity discussion topic is welcome!
Thanks!
