Pending Transaction

I’ve read over previous posts but I can’t seem to find advice on how to fix the problem in the future. I believe the reason my transaction is pending is because the fee was too low. Maybe I’m wrong so please fee free to correct. Now it has been well over 36 hours and usually my transactions are completed in 2-3 hours. If I need this transaction to go through is it best to redo and if so, how can I ensure that the fees are high enough? And the other weird thing is that the bitcoins seem to have left my account. Thanks for any advice.
