Self-custody isn't as complicated as people think

I mean people really seem to overestimate the difficulty of self-custody of you Bitcoin, I see lots of people relying on custodians and institutions to hold their coins for them when it's SO DAMN EASY TO JUST HOLD YOUR OWN PROPERITY SAFELY, Is it the technicalities? I mean for starters all you need is a computer, a piece of paper and a pen then you're good to go, you can increase security with more measures like cold wallets and multi-sig but you don't have to start with those from the get go.
