Some help regarsing gass fees would be much appreciated

So basically Im holdin my tokens in MEW wallet. Gas fees have been extremely high for me for swaps. At 8% of value last night and 3% tonight.

Im wondering :

-Is it possible that gass fees will be lower if I use another wallet ?? I know that the more complicated what your trying to do is the more gas you need. Ao maybe MEW is overcomplicating a simple swap those the extremely high fee ?? Hope I make some sense.

-From your observation is there a better time of day/week for perdorming anything on the network for lower gass fees?
