With the recen Dillon Danis / Coffeezilla coup, I remembered the times where Katy Perry painted her finger nails and Paris Hilton promoting dodgy coins and exchanges. I had a bit of a dig, and started an incomplete list of some more celebrities that got suckered into promoting "projects" (read: mostly scams) in the crypto space. Any other big ones I missed?
DJ Khaled – Endorsed Centra Tech, which was later revealed to be a fraudulent initial coin offering (ICO). He claimed that Centra offered "real solutions to real problems" and "real opportunities".
Paris Hilton – Endorsed LydianCoin, an ICO that was later revealed to have links to a company that was accused of domestic abuse, violating privacy laws, and using bots to manipulate their coin price.
Floyd Mayweather – Endorsed multiple ICOs, including Stox, Hubii Network, and Centra Tech, all of which were later revealed to be fraudulent.
Jamie Foxx – Endorsed Cobinhood, a cryptocurrency exchange that was later revealed to have insider trading and other illegal activities.
Steven Seagal – Endorsed Bitcoiin2Gen, an ICO that was later revealed to be a Ponzi scheme. He claimed that Bitcoiin2Gen was "a true asset" and "a valuable addition to the world of cryptocurrency".
Mike Tyson – Endorsed Bitcoin Direct, a cryptocurrency ATM company. This wasn't a scam per-se but there are many complaints about the company and its practices out there.
Lui Liu – Endorsed Gluon, an ICO that was later revealed to be a scam. He claimed that Gluon was "a revolutionary platform that will change the world".
The Game – Endorsed Paragon, an ICO that was later revealed to be a fraudulent scheme. I remember Snoop Dogg also being part of this, although tbf, Snoop is a crypto OG.
Ashton Kutcher - I remember him advertising for BitPay, although also not really a scam, I'm not sure he knew what he was in for...
Any others you remember or can think off? Do you feel sorry for some of these celebrities (I guess, more often than not it's just a poor management decision and maybe the celebrities themselves aren't even aware of what they are promoting). In other cases, I'm pretty sure they were aware that they are promoting scams and were just looking the other way for some $$$.
I'm not mentioning John McAfee here, he is a different league entirely and I made some posts about him in the past.
