What are Internal Transactions

I moved some ETH off coinbase to a hardware wallet. I started with a small transfer, which arrived fine and it shows as a transaction on etherscan. Then I moved the rest in two transfers. The ETH arrived fine. It shows up as the correct balance on both my hardware wallet and on etherscan. But neither the wallet nor etherscan show the second and third transactions. But if I go to the "internal transactions" tab on etherscan, I can see the transactions. What's that all about. Do I actually have the coins in my wallet that I think I have?
