What are the qualities of eth in 2022?

I put 50-50 in eth-bitcoin because that's what I was told to do. But today a friend has brought something to my attention: "Bitcoin is supposed to be the internet's gold, while Ethereum acts as a more technological say to make transactions and contracts. But nowdays there are many more cryptos with a better technology than Ethereum, so what is the real value of eth?" I am not trying to start a war here, just hear from you what's the value of eth in 2022, even if we move to eth 2 there are still coins with faster transactions and smarter contracts.
