I am not a frugal person. I like fast cars, great food, vintage homes, and some nice shit. That being said, as I have been in crypto, I have realized the following (fyi I am American):
The average high income American is playing a keeping up with the Joneses game that is unsustainable, stupid, and toxic (yes, I judge).
As I get older, I see many people who are literally trapped. Some of them even describe their lives as luxurious jails. So here's what I've learned not to do:
- The big way you can blow up is by taking on a giant house. Not only can the mortgage crush you, so can the taxes.
- If you are trying to keep up with the Joneses, you will usually blow up. it's because you are competing against people who are smarter, more efficient, and more connected than you. It will force you to take big risks to prove yourself
- Tell everyone you are doing "ok". This removes the ability to play competition, and actually makes everyone else feel better ("well I didn't get the bonus, but I think I'm doing better than Joe").
It shocks me-I'm 40-and I see people literally a step away from a heart attack still trying to play this game.
For the love of all that is holy focus on your health, freedom, time, and Get away from this shit show.
