What will staking look like when after the merge?

I haven't been following eth very closely, but when staking started for eth 2.0 with the 32 eth minimum I assumed this was a temporary system, and that with the full eth 2.0 or merge there'd be some sort of delegated system, but I don't hear anyone talking about this. Are there clear plans for staking, or will the current state of affairs with staking pools continue into the merge and be the final version of how staking will operate (which would be dismal if it were the case)?
