City in Greece prepares to launch a compensatory credit coin for its citizens - a blockchain use case that's not about the money.

All Cryptocurrencies

Trikala, a city in central Greece (which is also a municipality center), is preparing a blockchain project, called the Tricoin, in order to encourage its citizens to participate in beneficial to the municipality acts.

Citizens will be able to be credited Tricoins through various acts, like recycling, using the publicly available bicycles to move around the city, and other actions that have not yet be announced. These credits can then be spent to buy parking space time, tickets for public transport, and various offers to associated shops.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any translated sources, but it's all over the greek tech blogs. Trikala is considered the most technologically advanced city in the country, and for years it's been following a roadmap on becoming a "smart city".

I think it's an interesting take to the blockchain technology, since the majority of projects are centered around market presence and price (tricoins will not be available to be bought and won't have a price). Most crypto use cases in Greece have been economic projects, so far, and these news show a fresh approach to crypto that doesn't care for the market.
