Explainer: Crypto Exchange Listing Requirements

For those wondering why their favorite tokens or coins haven't shown up on major exchanges like Kraken or Coinbase, it has a lot to do with each company's listing requirements.

Even though some, like Kucoin, seem to list absolutely anything that comes their way, there's still an application process that requires developers to submit documentation and sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Some exchange listings also require an upfront payment and/or liquidity guarantee (it was rumored that to get on Binance at one point could cost up to $1M USD.)

Below are some of the majors and what they require with links to their pages.

Kraken - Only coin developers can apply for the listing (traders and enthusiasts can't.) They don't list specific requirements on their page (more here https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001388206-New-coin-listing-requests) except to say "You can email us all the details of your project".

Pretty vague process . . .

Kucoin - There's a seven step process to get a new coin or token listed, including an application, NDA, KYC, signing a contract, and testing. More here: https://www.kucoin.com/support/360003229494

Surprisingly detailed. . .

Coinbase - They developed an "AssertHub" for applications (more here: https://www.coinbase.com/assethub) which includes setting up an account and going through compliance, legal, and security steps.

Very straightforward

Crypto dot com - This is a curious case as some tokens may show up in the app, but not on their website trading platform. Their application (here: https://crypto.com/us/listing) requires links to a website, whitepaper, team background info., and email, but does allow for an "other" category for applicants, unlike most of the above.

Binance - Their online application process requires "the project founder or CEO to fill out the application". It also requires using BNB/BUSD in the token's ecosystem. More here: https://www.binance.com/en/support/faq/how-to-get-your-coin-listed-on-binance-com-053e4bdc48364343b863d1833618d8ba
