I have written a brief proposal with a model of how a modular decentralized digital map protocol could be constructed using the Ethereum blockchain for security, governance, and hosting applications built around spatial coordination. I am a bit fuzzy on the details of where and how the protocol's state data could be stored in a secure and decentralized way, but the applications themselves could easily deploy on rollups, validiums, etc. My hope is that this model can highlight some of the opportunities that exist at the intersection of crypto and geographic information systems.
This is the first of many pieces I intend to write on the subject. I am unaware of any other writing on this topic, and I would be grateful for any feedback or suggestions for further reading.
