So, my parents (in their 70's) were sitting around, reading the news, when my dad remarked to my mom "Wow, this town in Texas is really having a problem with the noise of bitcoin mining. I guess they can hear the noise from 8 miles away!" The article, of course, was referring to the noise generated by the fans necessary to keep the giant server farms cool as they hash away.
My mom, only moderately interested raised her eyebrows.
He continued: "Man, they must really be buried under the ground deep. Are they using jackhammers to get them up or something"?
My mom and I almost died laughing. I made my dad read the rest of the article and explained exactly what a bitcoin was (which, by the way, I'm sure I've done at least a dozen times to him, but you know how parents are sometimes). Luckily he thought it was as funny as we did.
It made me wish bitcoins really could be found buried in the ground. Gold Rush 2024! Hehe.
