The block halving event happens every 4 years on Litecoin blockchain. The first reward of the Litcoin block was 50 LTC. The block reward is divided every 4 years. This lowers the rate at which Litcoins are generated. The halving occurs periodically and is programmed into the code of Litcoin. The current Litecoin block reward is 12.5 LTC, after halving the block reward will be 6.25 LTC. The halving will end approximately in 2142.
