Lily Allen, a british singer known for songs like Smile and F You, was offered 200 000 Bitcoin for playing a gig in the computer game Second Life in 2009. It is no surprise that she turned down the offer since Bitcoin at that time was only known by a selected few, and also it would have netted her about 445 GBP (around 650-700 USD at the time).
Lily Allen tweeted about this in the beginning of 2014, when Bitcoin was trading around 800 USD:"About 5 years ago someone asked me to stream a gig live on second life for hundreds of thousands of bitcoins, βas ifβ I said."At that time it means the 200 000 Bitcoin would have been worth something in the range of 160 million USD.
Looking at the ATH of Bitcoin the 200 000 Bitcoin would have been worth around 13.7 Billion USD and at todays value it would be worth around 5.2 Billion USD.
Sure, we would hate to be Lily Allen now but in hindsight there would not be many of us who would've accepted the offer back then if we were famous singers, especially seeing, as mentioned above, that the current price then was around 250-300 USD.
Will there be more offers like this? Seeing as several famous people have adopted crypto in different ways, such as doing sponsorships for crypto platforms and promoting certain cryptos I see this as an absolute possibility. See also the post from earlier today about 50 Cent having accepted Bitcoin in an album release. Also the possibility for ownership of songs through blockchain technology could further push for using crypto in the music world.
Edit: Fixed wrong calculation on GBP <-> USD
