Binance Appoints Senior Microsoft Exec As CTO

Binance hires Rohit Wad, a 30-year veteran from Silicon Valley firms like Microsoft and Google

The move comes as Binance insists on winning the trust of regulators and mainstream finance.

Binance announced on Friday that it has appointed Rohit Wad, who has spent more than 30 years at Microsoft and other Silicon Valley giants, as its new Chief Technology Officer.

The move comes at a time when the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, is working to dispel its once-hypocritical image and expand the role of crypto in the mainstream economy. Hiring Wade appears to be an important part of that plan.

“Wad Engineering will be responsible for scalable, compliant and fast Web 3 services and solutions,” Binance said in a release announcing the news. “He will guide the team to build products that will drive mass adoption of crypto and lower the barrier of entry to Web3 technology.”

Wad began his career at Microsoft in the early 1990s, helping to build core software products such as Excel and Bing. After stints at Google and Facebook, he returned to Microsoft in 2016 to take on the role of Corporate VP of Product and Engineering.

Bro, it is amazing that crypto-related platforms are now hiring execs from big brands from outside the crypto space. For instance, crypto exchange, Coinbase did the same thing. Open source platform, Tea did the same thing. NFT Marketplace, OpenSea did the same thing. Every good person will soon be working on crypto and NFT.

On Friday, Binance also announced that it has appointed Mayur Kamat, a senior executive at Singapore-based travel giant Agoda, as its new VP of Product.
